The Graphing Tool Chart Definition editor is used to define various parameters for the accumulation, summarization, and graphing of the available data samples.

Use the chart definition editor to define following chart aspects:

IPSentry Graphing Tool - Chart Definition

Chart Name
Provide a descriptive chart name for this definition.  This name will be used as the graph and chart definition for all selected values and devices.  This name should describe the time frame and configuration information

Sample Group
Data samples can be accumulated and grouped by Minute, Hour, Day, Month, and Year.
e.g. If you want to see the last 24 hours in 5 minute intervals, you would select "By Minute" since you will be accumulating the data based on a minute value and each sample will contain the accumulation of data for a specific number of 'minutes'.

Minute Sample
This option is specific to "by Minute" sample grouping and allows you to specify the number of minutes for each group.  Some standard values are 1 minute, 5 minute, 10 minute, and 30 minute intervals.

Samples
This option is the total number of samples that you want to display.  So, if you select "By Hour" and you want to see the last 2 days by hour, you would enter 48 for the # of samples here.  This will give you 48 samples of 1 hour accumulations.

Chart Range

From Current
Select this option to have the reporting system calculate the starting point based on the current date/time and subtracting the number of sample intervals for the time frame defined.

As in the example above, if you ran this report at 5pm, it would calculate 48 hour intervals back to get a starting point that would be 5pm of 2 days ago.

Using this method will result in a different set of graphs during every run since the data will have most likely changed and the starting point will always be calculated from the date/time the report is executed.

Specific Duration
Select this option if you need the report to be run for a specific duration in time frame.  For example, you may want to have this weeks data from the beginning of the week to the current time. In that case, you would select "This Week".

The options available in the Specific Duration selection are:

Today
Calculates results based on the data available between 00:00 and current time.

Yesterday
Calculates results based on the data available between 00:00 and 23:59 - yesterday.

This Week
Calculates results based on the data available between 00:00 on Sunday and the current date/time..

Last Week
Calculates results based on the data available between 00:00 on Sunday and 23:59 on Saturday of last week.

This Month
Calculates results based on the data available between 00:00 on the 1st of this month and the current date/time.

Last Month
Calculates results based on the data available between 00:00 on the 1st of last month and 23:59 on the last day of last month.

This Year
Calculates results based on the data available between 00:00 on Jan 1 of the current year and the current date/time.

Last Year
Calculates results based on the data available between 00:00 on Jan 1  and 23:59 Dec 31 of last year.

Custom
Selecting this option will require that you enter a date/time range for which the data should be accumulated whenever you run this report.

The start/end time frames will be enabled with this selection.

Include Detail List
Select this option to include the value samples associated with each graph in a table format in the report.

Max Detail Count
If you enter a value greater than zero in this field, the total number of samples output to the detail list will be limited to this number of entries.  If you select to accumulate last years data in 1 minute intervals, you would end up with over 500000 possible entries (not to mention a black graph).  Nonetheless, in some cases you may want to limit the data detail.  By default, there is no limit and the detail report can be HUGE.

Chart Style
The ipSentry Graphing Tool will output 1 of 3 chart styles (or none if you like) depending on what might possibly be the use of the report.

Possible chart styles:

Executive
This report style is the most graphically intense with shadowing and gradients for presentation style images.  Select this option for presentation quality graphs where size, printing, and load-time are not requirements.

Basic
This report style is similar to the Executive graphs with shadows and gradients removed for lower resource consumption during load and print.

Fast Load
This is the most generic style graph intended for fast loading, fast printing, and overall "Here it is" quality.

None
This option is available for instances where no graphs are desired and you just want the textual data output to the report for general viewing.
